As a part of Multicultural Week, several international students met with various members of the faculty during the lunch hour on February 12, 2015. The purpose of the gathering was to have the students express their thoughts on what would help them in their major areas here at the university. On the other hand, the discussion also offered an opportunity for members of the faculty to ask the students for suggestions as to how they could better assist them in their classes. The students expressed the challenges they face in regards to working in assigned groups, expressing themselves in classes, getting help from the teachers, and adjusting to the different types of instruction in the United States as compared to their native countries. All of the students expressed why they chose Saint Mary’s University and readily expressed their appreciation for the help they do get from their professors. As a result of the conversation, both the students and professors came away with a better understanding of the challenges at hand. Thank you to all who participated.
